Magnetostriction
Magnetostriction :
When ferromagnetic materials are magnetized, there are small changes in its dimensions. The phenomenon is called Magnetostriction.
When subjected to rapidly alternating magnetic fields there is a rapid and continuus extention and contraction of the material. This is called magnetostriction. This produce the buzzing sound or humming sound in transformers and chokes, this in turn causes losses due to frictional heating in cores.
