Study of Multiplexers using Gates and IC’s

STUDY OF MULTIPLEXERS USING GATES AND ICS

AIM:

•  To set up a 4 x 1 multiplexer using  gates.
•  Study of  8 x 1 multiplexer IC 74151.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS REQUIRED:

 IC trainer kit, ICs 7400, 7410, 7440, 74151 and, Power supply.

THEORY:

Multiplexer is a combination logic circuit which can select any one of the   inputs and route it to the output. Various multiplexer IC’s are available with 4, 8 and 16 inputs and 1 output, whereas 74150 is a 16 line to 1 line multiplexer.  They have control inputs to carry out this operation

74151 – It is a 8 line to 1 line multiplexer. It has 3 select inputs and an active low strobe input.

PROCEDURE:

Test all the components and ICs using multi meter and digital IC tester. Set up the 4 x 1 multiplexer using logic gates and verify the truth table. Set up the multiplexer ICs and verify the truth table

RESULT:

A 4 x 1 multiplexer is set up using gates and the truth table is verified. Studied the working of 8 X 1 multiplexer IC 74151.
