5V Power supply using 7805 voltage regulator IC
AIM
To study the characteristics of 5V Power Supply using 7805 Voltage Regulator.
COMPONENTS AND EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED
- TRANSFORMER 0-9V 1 NO
- DIODE IN 4001 4 NOS
- CAPACITOR 470 μF /50 V 1 NO
- CAPACITOR 0.01 μF 2 NOS
- LM 7805 IC 1 NO
- BREAD BOARD 1 NO
THEORY:
In most of our electronic products or projects we need a power supply for converting mains AC voltage to a regulated DC voltage. For making a power supply designing of each and every component is essential. Here is the regulated DC voltage circuit which contains a bridge rectifier and a regulated IC 7805. Voltage regulator : As we require a 5V we need LM7805 Voltage Regulator IC. It has the specifications of Input voltage range 7V- 35V, Current rating Ic = 1A and Output voltage range VMax=5.2V ,VMin=4.8V.
PROCEDURE
- Set up the circuits on bread board.
- Observe the transformer secondary voltage (Vac).
- Note the output voltage of rectifier circuit (Vdc).
- Note the output voltage of regulator circuit (Vdc).
