Voltage regulation & Transmission Efficiency

Voltage regulation

When transmission line carries the current, there is a voltage drop in the line due to resistance and inductance of the line. This results, the receiving end voltage VR is less than sending end voltage VS. This Voltage drop in the line is expressed as a percentage of receiving end voltage VR is called voltage regulation

Percentage voltage regulation = (Vs – VR) / VR X 100

Transmission Efficiency

The power obtained at the receiving end of a transmission line is generally less than sending end power due to losses. The ratio of receiving end power to sending end power of a transmission line is known as the transmission efficiency of the line.

% transmission efficiency=receiving end power/sending end power
